When I was an undergraduate at my University, I had two accounting professors that inspired me to teach at the University level.. They were the two best teachers that I had as a student, and their style was completely different. One professor was an ex-marine who was extremely demanding and focused. He was always very well prepared, and he expected  the same from his students. The other professor had an extremely laid back style, but when he discussed an issue, it was always in a clear and precise manner. When I became a professor, I tried to develop a style that was a cross of these two gentlemen, and I always have tried to live up to their standards.

What excites me about Stuart
As a clinical professor, I am allowed to combine my professional career with my teaching career. I have always believed that accounting should be taught with a combination of academic and professional points of view. As a PhD. and a licensed CPA, I always try to bring to bring both of these dimensions into my classroom. At Stuart, we have students from all over the world who are interested in developing skills that will allow them to become decision makers. I try to teach accounting so that my students can see and understand the underlying theory of what accounting is trying to accomplish, but at the same time I try to provide real world examples so that the students can see some practical applications. I believe that this will be a very important set of skills that will assist them in becoming decision makers in a competive global environment.

My teaching/professional interests
In my professional career, I have always used my accounting skills to help my clients maintain their competive advantage. Understanding new information and incorporating it into the company strategy in the most efficient manner are common goals that I always try to have my clients achieve. I am an educator, and whether I am teaching a client or a student, the concepts are very similar. I want my clients and students to understand and use the proper strategy to be successful. Understanding accounting allows people to make quality decisions.
