Co-op and Internship Programs
At Stuart School of Business, we offer two ways for you to become involved in the business world before graduation. To compliment your in-class studies, you can take on an internship or a co-op. There are many benefits of such experiences.
- Explore your chosen career before you complete your degree.
- Enhance your skills and knowledge base, which can make you a more attractive candidate when you seek full-time employment after graduation.
- Meet and network with professionals in your field; and add valuable experience to your resume.
If you are on a F-1 visa, you are eligible to work under Curricular Practical Training, CPT after you have competed two full terms. If you are a transfer student or have completed another degree from US institution other than IIT, you must complete at least 9 credit hours at IIT before participating in CPT. Visit the International Center website for additional information.
INTERNSHIP:
An internship runs the length of one semester with one employer and is limited to a maximum 20 hours per week but could be less. During the summer, the internship can be more than 20 hours per week. Internships must relate to your field of study and can be paid or unpaid.
CO-OP:
A co-op is a multiple term employment commitment with one employer for a minimum of a two semester commitment full-time (20 hours or more) or a four semester commitment part-time (less than 20 hours). A co-op must be related to the student’s field of study and must be a paid position.
To begin the authorization process for a co-op or internship, attend a mandatory Co-op/Internship Workshop, then download the appropriate forms well ahead of the deadline.
