Co-op and Internship Programs

At the Stuart Graduate School of Business, we offer two ways for you to become involved in the business world before graduation. To complement your in-class studies, you can take on an internship or a co-op. There are many benefits of such experiences.

  • Explore your chosen career before you complete your degree.
  • Enhance your skills and knowledge base, which can make you a more attractive candidate when you seek full-time employment after graduation.
  • Meet and network with professionals in your field; and add valuable experience to your resume.

International students are eligible to participate in an internship or co-op under Curricular Practical Training (CPT). If you are on an F-1 visa, you are eligible to work under CPT after you have competed three full time academic quarters. Visit the International Center website for additional information.

INTERNSHIP: An internship runs the length of a quarter, and is a minimum of eight weeks long. During your annual vacation (which is usually summer), the internship can be either 20 or 40 hours per week. During the other three quarters while enrolled in courses, the internship is limited to 20 hours per week. Internships must relate to your field of study and can be paid or unpaid.

CO-OP: A co-op is three quarter-long, full-time employment related to the student’s field of study. Co-op must be a paid position.

To begin the authorization or renewal process for a co-op or internship, download the appropriate forms (above) well ahead of the deadline. You will be notified of the deadlines via email announcements from the Office of Career Services.

After the forms are complete, you will be required to meet with your academic advisor and the Office of Career Services before your internship or co-op will be approved. If you are an International student, you will be required to meet with the International Office for visa authorization after you meet with the OCS and after you register. Please keep in mind that if you need visa authorization, it can take three business days after meeting with the International Center for your authorization to come through.
