Nilmini Sunethra Wickramasinghe

Goal: To be a valuable contributing member of an energetic academic institution in the pursuit of excellence in research, teaching and service.

Dr. Nilmini Wickramasinghe researches and teaches in several areas within Information Systems including IT for competitive advantage, knowledge management, e-commerce and m-commerce and organizational impacts of technology. In addition, Dr Wickramasinghe specializes in the impacts of technologies on the healthcare industry and various aspects of medical informatics. She is well published in all these areas having written books, numerous refereed scholarly papers and encyclopedia entries. Dr Wickramasinghe regularly presents her work throughout North America as well as in Europe and Australiasia. Currently, Dr Wickramasinghe is the US representative of the Health Care Technology Management Association (HCTM), an international organization that focuses on critical healthcare issues and the role of technology within the domain of healthcare, the associate director of the Center for Management Medical Technology (CMMT) at Illinois Institute of Technology, a center for research, education, outreach and dissemination of leading edge issues in the area of healthcare management and holds an associate professor position at the Stuart Graduate School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology.

CSU has several joint programs with large organizations such as NASA Glen, FBI and Cleveland Clinic Foundation in which I have been involved. Teaching: graduates and undergraduates in the areas of IT for Competitive Advantage, e-Commerce and Knowledge Management. Also teaching e-commerce for the MBA program at the Cleveland Clinic. In addition, I teach the joint program in Germany at die Berufsakademie, Heidenheim in e-business and have developed a new program in Healthcare. Research: actively conducting research in e-commerce and knowledge management and in particular how these areas impact the US healthcare environment and the healthcare environment globally. Other areas of research include m-commerce, ERP and the impacts of technology on both strategy and an organizations human infrastructure. Service: active in numerous capacities including but not limited to reviewing, organizing conferences and mini tracks and presenting at numerous forums both nationally and internationally.

1st September 2000 to 29th January 2001: Senior Lecturer in Management Information Systems at The University of Melbourne, Department of Accounting and Business Systems, School of Economics & Commerce. As well as my regular lecturing (both undergraduate and graduate students) and research activities, I designed and developed new courses in: 1) Knowledge Management Systems and 2) E-commerce.

June 1st 1999-September 1st 2000: Lecturer in Management Information Systems at The University of Melbourne, Department of Accounting and Business Systems, School of Economics & Commerce.

Jan 1996 to May 1999: Research associate for Prof J.B. Silvers, Health Systems Management Centre, Weatherhead School of Management, CWRU – primarily working on Value Project which traced the changes in value to various areas in the Health Care industry in an at­tempt to understand the full impact of managed care. This project was funded by a $245,778 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In addition, I was attending the Steering Committee meetings for the implementation of 2 major information systems at University Hospitals, Cleveland.

Jan 1999 to May 1999:Co-Instructor MBAC 423 Stream I, II, III - three core MBA courses on Technology, Design and Management. The special feature of this course is that it was a totally wired course. The first of its kind to be introduced at CWRU.

Aug 1998 to Dec 1998: Teaching Assistant MGMT 462-a MBA class taught in Budapest, Hungary where CWRU has a joint Interna­tional Management

Program. This course concerned issues per­taining to Technology and Science

Jan 1997 to Dec 1998: Teaching MIDS 309 - an undergraduate course designed by myself to introduce students to various aspects of IT (information technology). In particular, the focus is on competitive issues, organisational issues, ethical issues, and management issues of IT.

Aug 1995-Dec 1995: Teaching assistant for MBA classes at Weatherhead School of Management, CWRU.

Dec 1994 - Feb 1995: Worked at Melbourne Business School, The University of Melbourne directly with Professor Peter Weill (now at Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Director of CISR, Sloan Senior Research Scientist Center for Information Systems Research (CISR) on the IBM Infrastructure Research Project as the research consultant. This project was a major international study. At the end of this period the unpublished docu­ment I produced, synthesised findings from the literature on strategy and how various compa­nies conveyed strategic intent, formed the foundation for the project and enabled hy­potheses to be generated which led to several other research projects that served to extend and augment several aspects of these findings. It also contributed to the book "Leveraging The New Infrastructure: How market leaders capitalize on information technology” by Weill & Braodbent, published by Harvard Business School Press in May1998 and is now in its third printing.
