Waivers & Transfers

Waivers are available for students who have taken previous courses that apply towards the MBA degree. Up to 12 credits can be waived. Please note that waivers do not reduce the number of credits that you must earn in order earn an MBA; you will instead substitute a more advanced course in place of the course that you waived.

Students with appropriate prerequisites and adviser approval may also take up to 6 credits from other Stuart or IIT graduate programs for use as their electives. For a complete list of electives, as well as descriptions for all courses, please review the MBA course descriptions.

Dual Degree Options at Stuart

Whether you want to pursue a career in entrepreneurship, corporate law, or the private sector, a dual degree will help you realize your professional goals. MBA dual degree programs are designed to combine specialized interests with a business and management perspective. IIT Stuart offers you the option to combine an MBA with a JD, offered in conjunction with the Chicago-Kent College of Law, an MBA with MDes (Masters in Design), offered by the IIT Institute of Design, or an MBA with an MS in Environmental Management, Finance, or Marketing Communication, offered by Stuart School of Business.

Candidates for a dual degree program must apply to and be accepted by each program separately. Current LSAT scores are required for admission to Chicago-Kent College of Law. Current GMAT scores are required by IIT Stuart's MBA degree program and MS programs. Interested students should call the IIT Stuart Office of Admission at 312.906.6576 or email us at admission@stuart.iit.edu

Dual enrollment can reduce degree requirements by a significant number of credits, which varies by program.  Simultaneous enrollment is required for varying periods of time, depending on the program. To help plan a program of study, students will be assigned advisors from both programs in which they are studying.

You have the choice of the following dual degree programs:

MBA/JD

A solid understanding of the business world can be invaluable in many areas of law, especially for corporate attorneys or legal/management consultants. Through this program, you will combine the management expertise and business skills of an MBA with a law degree. Dual enrollment can reduce degree requirements by as many as 24 semester credits. The JD/MBA program is offered in conjunction with Chicago-Kent College of Law, which shares a state-of-the art facility with IIT Stuart.

MBA/MS

Three joint degrees are offered that combine the MBA with a Stuart MS degree program in environmental management, finance, or marketing communication. These programs are designed to prepare students for management-level positions in one of these areas or to start up their own companies. Both degrees are usually earned in three years of full-time study or in five years of part-time study. Dual enrollment can reduce degree requirements by as many as 15 credits, or 5 full-semester courses.

MBA/MDes

The joint MBA/Master of Design degree combines advanced methods for exploring new theories of design with an understanding of the business applications of technology and analytic methods. MBA/MDes graduates are uniquely well qualified to lead collaborative, interdisciplinary, global innovation organizations. The length of the program depends on the student's experience and background. Dual enrollment can reduce degree requirements significantly. Please check with the respective Program Directors.
