Nasrin R. Khalili

Associate Professor, Stuart School of Business; Academic Director, Environmental Management

Nasrin Khalili teaches Environmental Management, Air and Water Pollution Control, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, Environmental Risk Assessment, and Environmental Law.

Her main research focus is development of cost-effective and highly efficient catalysts for environmental redemption and treatment. The novelty of the work is that waste material itself is used for the production of these catalysts. Her work has resulted in efficient processes for conversion of biosolids and papermill sludge to carbon-based adsorbents and catalysts.

She led the award-winning KlarAqua IPRO, a project that had students developing a low-cost water filtration system, which can be locally produced in Mexico using no electricity, chemicals or heavy maintenance. She holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Tehran University and a Ph.D from IIT. Khalili was awarded a Julia Beveridge Award for service to IIT in 2001.
