Pradeep Barthur

Master of Business Administration

Pradeep Barthur was born in Mysore, India, home to the city’s royal family and a number of historic palaces, and completed his graduate studies in information technology at Karnataka State Open University. He visited Chicago on a work assignment and liked its mix of serenity, modernity, and progress. With a recommendation from a colleague who graduated from IIT, Barthur came to the conclusion that there was no better place to obtain his M.B.A. than from IIT Stuart School of Business.

“I was greatly influenced by the faculty profile and the city of Chicago,” says Barthur, whose has an undergraduate degree in engineering from Bangalore University. “I was looking for a technically based university that offers business administration, and found that many Stuart professors also have technical backgrounds. That made my decision a simple one.”

One faculty member praised Barthur for having “a constant flow of ideas involving the smart use of technology,” in an environmental project Barthur participated in during his first semester. “It helped me to understand a new technology as much as the need for green initiatives to be a part of everyone’s life,” says Barthur, who used various Web technologies to explore the impact made by carbon emissions.

Before enrolling at Stuart, Barthur was employed in the telecommunications technology industry and thought that an academic focus on marketing and management science would complement and even accelerate his career goals. He serves as a marketing specialist on the Stuart Graduate Student Council, and especially enjoyed his role in organizing a class trip to the Chicago Board of Trade.
